“In their innocence and wisdom, in their connection to the earth and its most ancient rhythms, animals show us a way back to a home they have never left.”
What does this say to you?
I love these words from Susan Chernak McElroy. They are beautiful. Simple. Powerful. Our human brains may be more complex, but animals have an elegant and deep wisdom we often miss.
Animals have much to teach us about life, love and relationships, if only we will listen. They can also help us heal, and show us where we need to grow. As much as our ‘complexity’ can create advantages for us in this world and perhaps lead to deeper awareness and relationships, it can also lead us to dangerous places; places of disconnect, loneliness and separation from all that is truly good.
Animals can help us find our way back. Wherever we have been, whatever we have done, or however lost we may feel, there is always a way back and when we don’t trust people to help or guide us, we may trust an animal. Carl Rogers, founder of Person Centred Counselling, stated that for healing and growth to arise three conditions are required: Genuineness, Empathy and Unconditional Positive Regard. I believe that animals, as a part of that innate wisdom and innocence, often provide these three conditions far better than we humans ever can.
